Bogotá Street Food Crawl

3.5 hoursMax 10EasyFamily friendly

Ajiaco, tamal santafereño, obleas, chocolate with cheese melted into it, and a great deal of arepa. Bogotá food is built for cold and altitude, and it makes complete sense once you have been outside for an hour.

What you do

  • Ajiaco santafereño, the city’s own soup, with guascas and capers
  • Chocolate con queso, which sounds wrong and is not
  • Obleas, almojábanas and a proper tamal
  • Chicha in the Callejón del Embudo to finish

As a private booking

A private route built around your appetite, plus a sit-down ajiaco at a restaurant worth the table.

Practical notes for Bogotá

  • Altitude is real. At 2,640 m the air holds about a quarter less oxygen than at sea level. Give yourself 24–48 hours before anything strenuous, drink more water than feels necessary, and go easy on alcohol the first night. Altitude sickness is uncommon here but not unheard of.
  • It is colder than you expect. People pack for the Caribbean and shiver. Bogotá sits at 8–19 °C. Bring a warm layer and a rain shell — the weather changes within an hour and the rain is sideways.
